Momentum Medical Scheme and Biogen Extend Partnership with Dryland Event Management to 2026
Dryland Event Management are proud to announce that Momentum Medical Scheme have retained the title sponsorship rights for the Attakwas Extreme, Tankwa Trek and Cape Pioneer Trek mountain bike races for at least three more years. The updated partnership agreement runs through 2026 and provides the support to continue to grow these events as local and international acclaimed races. Biogen, who joined the health insurance arm of the Momentum Group, as the presenting sponsor of those three events, in 2016, have also committed to the Oudtshoorn based event organisers for three more years. The Biogen partnership extends beyond the events for which they hold the presenting sponsorship rights to encompass all ten events in the Dryland stable.
The gravitas of having two of South Africa’s most respected health and wellness brands associated with the events is significant. It showcases both Momentum Medical Scheme and Biogen’s belief in mountain bikers as key clientele, as well as their faith in the local event industry. This is further exemplified by Biogen’s recent announcement of their sponsorship of Olympian Candice Lill and the Valley Electrical Titan Racing cycling team.
“Since day one of our partnership we have had exceptional working relationships with not only the companies, Momentum Medical Scheme and Biogen, but also with the people who manage them and who activate at our events,” Henco Rademeyer of Dryland Event Management praised. “We have launched exciting projects together, worked tirelessly side-by-side to grow the events and deliver real value for the participants. It has been an absolute pleasure working with the teams and we are looking forward to continuing to innovate and elevate the Momentum Medical Scheme, presented by Biogen, events.”
“As Dryland Event Management we are also exceptionally grateful for the support both companies showed us during the last few years,” Rademeyer added. “2020 to mid-2022 were exceptionally difficult years for mass-participation sports events and the understanding which the executives Momentum and Biogen showed is a hallmark of the ethical manner in which they conduct their business. With partners like these we can only look ahead positively to the next three years.”
“We are excited to renew our partnership with Dryland for these three incredible events” Damian McHugh, Chief Marketing Officer for Momentum Health Solutions, said. “There are not many cycling events in the world that compare to what these events offer. The routes, the professionalism, the experience, the food, the scenery and the friendliness and care that riders receive – it’s among the best out there. That is one of the reasons we love being involved. The other is because health is important. More specifically, your health is important, it’s the most important asset you have. We are seriously passionate about the health of our country and about events which encourage participants to enjoy active, healthy lifestyles. We want to reward our clients for being healthier. Being involved with world class events where our current and future clients can have fun, test themselves, be healthier and rewarded all at the same time is fantastic.”
“As we head into our seventh year of collaboration, Biogen is thrilled to be renewing with Dryland Event Management for a third sponsorship term,” stated Brandon Fairweather, General Manager – Biogen. “The relationship goes above and beyond basic brand positioning, in that, we share a common desire to create world-class endurance events and experiences for the sporting community. We see a deep alignment in values and ethics, underpinned by a mantra of adding genuine value to all athletes, and motivating them to not only challenge themselves but more importantly nurture their health & wellness through the beauty of sport.”
Biogen’s support for Dryland Event Management’s races extends beyond the three events they are the presenting sponsors for. Every water point at each of the ten events is stocked with Biogen products, including the Cytogen Race Mix sports drink and Energy Oat sports bars. Participants also have access to unlimited Biogen ELECTROlite zero sugar hydration drinks, which certainly help athletes rehydrate between stages of mountain bike or trail running events.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Momentum Medical Scheme and Biogen for their continued support of mountain biking,” Rademeyer added. “I know I not only speak for Dryland Event Management, but the participants in our events and the industry in general when I say that their commitment to the sport is invaluable. Partners from beyond cycling help us, within the sport, grow it to a wider audience and promote mountain biking as a healthy activity which one can practice virtually throughout your life.”
With the Momentum Medical Scheme Attakwas Extreme, presented by Biogen, already having taken place the next event on the Dryland calendar is the Momentum Medical Scheme Tankwa Trek, presented by Biogen. The four-day UCI stage race has once again attracted a stellar field of local and international riders, both the elite men’s and women’s titles should be fiercely contested.
